A quantitative behavioral model of developmental stage

The HDI measures life expectancy from 20 to 85 years. Countries with longer life expectancies receive higher HDI scores than those in which people die at a younger age. For instance, in the fictitious country of Generica, the life expectancy at birth is 70 years. The life expectancy index would be (70-20)/(85-20), or 0.77. The HDI is a broader measure of wellbeing than per capita income alone.

There seems to be a connection between deviations in the data. When there exists a large deviation, for a specific region, for the HDI, there seems to also be a large deviation of values for the HPI. The Human Development Index (HDI) consists of three elements. These are: income; life expectancy; education; HDI per capita is used as an estimated measure of wealth. Life expectancy is the average number of years a person can expect to live. The average number of years of schooling is used in an education index. Human development index is a measure of the country’s economic development and its economic welfare.

The HDI is the geometric mean of normalized indices for each of the three dimensions.
